Dona Paula is an amazing place with potpourri of lore. This cramped place is located in South Goa and is a popular among lovers at the bay of Arabian Sea. This place is calm and tranquil during monsoon otherwise turns tumult tourists spot. It is also known for the confluence of Mandovi rover and Zuari rover with Arabian Sea.

Historically if we flip the pages in yore, the town was known as Oddavell. There is much folklore related to this place and particularly to lady named "Dona". Dona was daughter of Portuguese Viceroy of Jaffnapatnam, in Sri Lanka. She was married to Dom Antonio Souto Maior a Fidalgo from Spain. She died in 1682. She was celebrated as "women of charity" who helped villagers for their amelioration. There are guides who shepherds people saying erroneous romantic lore. One of which is, Dora's love for a Goan local boy being rejected by her family provoked her to commit suicide. The two sculptures, believed to Dona and Paula's are actually of Mr. & Mrs. Knox by a Dutch Sculptress Baroness Yrse Von Leistner.

This amazing place has many stalls selling trinkets, shell jewelry, clothes, etc. There are also shacks catering lip smacking fresh seafood. Don't forget to try Goan Urak, which is another famous drink of the state apart from cashew feni. Dona Paula is also known for Bollywood movies shot here.
