Palolem Beach, the center of coastal Kanakona (Canacona), the southernmost district in Goa is located about 63 km from Dabolim International Airport, 43 km from Margao Station and nearly 76 km from the state capital Panaji. Both taxis and buses are readily available from all these destinations to reach Palolem Beach. Shady palm trees lacing the coast and silvery sand shining under the dazzling sun render the beauty of the beach to be very astounding. An island like promontory can be perceived from the Palolem Beach that can be reached by walking during the period of low tide. Tourists spend hours in watching the playful banter of the Sea urchins, sea cucumbers and mussels. The beautiful lampshades made of rice straws illuminating the huts after dark lend a grand demeanor to the coastline. Canoe rides to spot dolphins and crocodiles are favorite excursions frequently indulged in by the tourists from this beach. The butterfly beach that lies between the Palolem and the Agonda Beaches offers another favorable place for canoeing. Swimming in the sea at Palolem Beach must be done carefully as the water level gets quite deep here. A cup shaped rock widely known as the 'Pandava's Drum' is positioned at the southern end of the Palolem beach. This is the major attraction of this beach and tourists feel enchanted to throw stones into the drum and listen to the sound that is produced from there. Figueiredo House Known for its architecture and design is another attraction situated adjacent to the Pandava's drum. This house was constructed in 20th century by the Figueiredo family. Today it stands as a part of the Neptune Point Hotel.
